And the sweet, sweet sun's comin' down Hard, the sun's comin' down Hard, it burns the bones

Fader - The Temper Trap

This is the second single from this Australian band led by lead vocalist Dougie Mandagi. They are most known for their single Sweet Disposition which was released late last year but this one happens to be my favourite. Take a look at the video above and tell me what you think. :)

3 Slags on a Corner : Chapter Three

Three - Matilda

Oh my head. Six. Six in the bloody morning, and she’s moving a drum kit. A drum kit for crying out loud. Why did she need to move it.
“Tilly! Get down here will you!” I heard my sisters voice ring from downstairs.
“I’m sleeping!” I heard her drop the drum kit and pound up the stairs. She walked into my room and pulled the quilt off me.
“Hey Cassie! What are you doing?” She smiled and ruffled my hair.
“We, my little sister, are going on a road trip.” Oh that’s not so bad, we never stayed in a place for that long anyway. Our parents died when I was twelve. We used to live in Morocco, my mum was half Moroccan; so that means I have a permanent tan, but our parents decided they wanted to live in England. They left me and my sister in Morocco to go check out a house in Manchester. We were really excited about leaving, it sounded amazing.
When our parents got there, they found a beautiful house just on the edge of Manchester. They’d emailed pictures back to us, and we loved it too. But, on the flight back to Morocco there was major turbulence. The pilot couldn’t control the plane and it crashed. My parents, and all the rest of the plane, were pronounced dead. No one saw it coming. Me and my sister were left in Morocco with no money or family. Both our parents were only children, and the only grand parents we had were in England. That’s when it clocked. My sister would ask our English grandparents, who we’d never met, to lend us money to fly over to England and live in the new house. It was all paid for so all we needed were flights over to England. So, Cassie asked them and, can you believe it, they agreed. So, two days later we’d left and were in England. The house was a beautiful as the pictures had shown; we lived there for a year when we decided to sell it. The profit was huge, we got forty thousand pounds over the asking price. That’s when we decided to live on the road, we had loads of money which we didn’t need to spend on a house; we lived in our car. We stopped at camping sites have a shower, and restaurants to eat. My sister got various jobs, but I was too young. I was fifteen when we moved here to Devon, and now we’re moving again. London, the big city; lots of money to be earned there. I’d be starting back at school after four years off. I got into a small school sixth form. Cassie wants to settle in London, so we’re buying a small house with the money we’ve got left. It’s cute I suppose, if you like cottage type houses.
So, now I get it, we’re leaving today; the house must be ready.
“So, we’re going today?” Cassie turned and smiled.
“Course! Off to the best city in the world!”
I smiled at her, she was seriously excited. I was too I guess, but just couldn’t seem to show it; you know it being six in the morning and all.

“Put on All American Rejects.” I reached for the iPod and turned to it. Cassie grabbed it out of my hands and scowled.
“No! We’re listening to Red Hot Chilli Peppers!” Oh for goodness sake, she went on one date. One date; and she is obsessed with the lead singer. And it was only because she won a competition. I was so bored of them now because of Cassie, so I pulled out one of my cigarettes.
“What are you doing?” Asked Cassie, as I put it in my mouth.
“Er…taking a smoke, like usual. Do you have a lighter, I can’t find mine.” This wasn’t how I expected her reaction to be. She pulled the cigarette out of my mouth and chucked it out the window. “What are you doing?” I shouted to her. “That was my last fag, you idiot. We need to stop to buy more now.”
“This is a new start, new life, and I gotta start acting like a proper guardian alright? No more smoking, or drugs, or alcohol, or sex!”
“Hey, that is so not fair. I’m fine with the sex coz I don’t do that anymore anyway. I’ve never taken drugs, and I’m 18 in 2 years so I might as well start drinking now!” That was all true. Especially the sex thing. Ever since the Robbie Sinn incident, I’ve gone off sex altogether!

We passed a 5km sign, and also a very stupid sign which was actually quite funny; it said “sign not in use”! Me and Cassie had a good old laugh at that. I looked to my right and saw a small off licence. I took this as my chance to get some cigarettes.
“Hey Cassie. Are you hungry?” Cassie frowned.
“Why?” She looked suspicious. I smiled.
“Because there’s an off licence over there and I thought we could get something.” She stopped frowning and smiled.
“Good idea Tills.” We stopped on a yellow line and I jumped out quickly. Cassie handed me a twenty pounds note and I ran into the shop. When I got in I saw a long aisle of sandwiches so I headed for it. I grabbed a BLT for Cassie and got myself a cheese salad baguette(I’m vegetarian). I also got a large bag of salt and vinegar kettle chips, a bottle of water for me and a coke for Cass. That’s when I saw them. Hundreds of packets all over the wall, I walked up to the till and gave the woman my stuff. She started scanning it in when I asked for my usual packet of cigarettes. She smiled.
“Can I see some I.D please love?” I returned the smile and whipped out Cassie’s I.D. I’d managed to skive it while she had been preoccupied. I showed it to her and she smiled.
“Thank You Cassandra that will be eighteen eighty five.” She held her hand out and I gave her the note. She out it in her till and I left. I walked over to the car and got in, that’s when I noticed the cashier running towards me.
“Cassandra!” She got over to the car and Cassie opened the window.
“Um can I help you?” She laughed.
“No no love I’m just giving Cassandra her receipt and change.” She handed it to me and walked back to her shop. Cassie peered at me.
“Why was she calling you my name?” I laughed nervously.
“I have no idea. What a silly woman.” I slumped down in my chair and tried to cover my face with my hand. She grabbed the bag off my lap and looked inside.
“Tilly I cannot believe you! I specifically said no cigarettes!” She took the pack of cigarettes and through them out of the window. I gasped.
“Cassie what the hell!” She scowled deeply.
“Tilly you are forbidden to smoke anymore. Do you understand?” That shocked look started to fall from my face. I nodded and she turned back forwards and pulled off the curb.

But, what shocked me the most, was the speed at how we got to our village. There was a little girl on her bike riding down the road, and a group of old men playing cards, it looked like a scene from a family film where everyone was just about to die. I squinted into the distance and saw a small house with a for sale sign outside. Cassie pointed forwards,
“There it is Tills, our new home!”

'Cos when my back is turned My bruises shine our broken fairytale So hard to hide

Many of Horror - Biffy Clyro

This is the 4th single from Biffy Clyro's album "Only Revelations" released 6th November 2009. It isn't as fast paced as any of the other songs this band has written, it shows a different side compared to songs such as 'The Captain' which are loud and in your face. I really like this single and at the moment, its only 59p on iTunes!

January 2010

These are my Top 5 tracks from the album "Take Off Your Colours"-
  1. Save it for the Bedroom
  2. Always Attract
  3. Kiss and Tell
  4. Finders Keepers
  5. Poker Face

You may be wondering why I did review of You Me At Six's old album when their new one was (literally) just released. Well, your answer is that I haven't had a blog long enough to talk about all the amazing albums of last year and, so far, this year; ergo, this post. You Me At Six are a 5 part English band with amazing songs and just most the ridiculously catchy lyrics ever invented. I love them, I hope that you will love them and all is well. New album is called "Hold Me Down" and was released only a little while ago.

Thanks for reading, Freya x x

3 Slags on a Corner : Chapter Two

Two - Evie

I could hear his footsteps following behind me, I hurried towards the window and pushed it open. The rope of tied sheets were to the left, I bent down and threw it out the window. I turned to see Dougie standing just behind me smiling. He drew me in and kissed me, I returned it and laughed.
“You have to go now, mum’s up!” I pulled away and he cautiously climbed down the rope. He dropped to the ground and looked up and smiled.
“I’ll meet you at our spot. Four o’clock?” I nodded and blew him a kiss. He ran to the end of the garden and jumped over the back wall. I was waiting by the window, when my mother walked in.
“Hello darling! Quick, quick come downstairs!” I looked at her puzzled. She waved me forward with her arm and I walked towards her.
“Why, what’s going on downstairs?” She mock zipped her mouth up and waved me along still. I rolled my eyes and followed her down the stairs. I saw my brother coming out of his room with my dad, he was doing the same thing my mum had done to me; he wasn’t saying anything either. Owen looked peeved, he didn’t normally wake up before twelve and it’s eight now. He pulled a grey hoodie over his head, and him and my dad followed behind my mum and I down the stairs.
When I reached the bottom my mum ushered me towards the dining table. I sat down and Pierre, our butler, came over with my favourite breakfast, pancakes. When Owen sat down he got his favourite breakfast too, a bowl of cheerios. He tucked in straight away, but I waited for more bribery.
“O.K mum, dad. Why are you buttering us up?” They both sat down at either ends of the table and were given a bowl of fresh fruit each, they’re on a diet. My dad put his spoon down and glanced between me and Owen. Owen had stopped eating and was now staring at dad suspiciously.
“O.K kids, we have some pretty big news for you both.” I glanced at Owen and frowned, he looked back at dad. Dad continued. “We are moving.” Owen looked like he’d been slapped right across the cheek. I drew in breath and put my fork down. Owen spoke next.
“What?” He looked at dad like death. “We’re moving? Where Cork, Dublin?” My dad shook his head and looked down. My mum chose this time to speak, we both looked at her.
“Owen love. We’re not moving to another part of Ireland. We’re moving to another country altogether.” Owens face looked confused.
“What country?” He leant back in his chair and frowned.
“Owen, Eve. We’re moving to London, England.” I gasped and pushed my chair back. I raced up the stairs and flew into my bedroom. I burst into tears and grabbed my pillow to cover my head. Moving to England would mean I’d never see any of my friends again. I’d never see Dougie. The one guy I’d actually liked and didn’t just like me because I was easy. I heard a light tap on the door.
“Go away!” I yelled, they didn’t listen. I felt the bottom of my mattress lower, I took the pillow off my head and saw Owen staring straight ahead. “I said go away.” He looked down at me and smiled.
“Oh come on sis. You didn’t know it was me then.” I tried not to smile and put the pillow back over my head.
“I know you have loads of friends here. But you’ll make new ones in London.”
“I know I will but, its just a shock you know?” He nodded.
“I don’t want to go, basically because I’ve just got a place in my dream uni, plus I don’t want to leave Siân. I’ve been with her for ages, and I think I love her. But I don’t know. Maybe fate is saying there’s someone in London who I’ll love more.” I sat up and gave him a huge hug.

*

So it was sorted, we were moving to England and my parents were strangely happy. My dad wouldn’t stop smiling and my mum kept squeezing my cheek; by the way, this was annoying. Owen had a huge farewell with Siân, there were lots of tears. Not from Owen, he’d seemed to have got over it. I hadn’t realised that I hadn’t said goodbye to Dougie, until I was on the plane. I was crushed, he would be so angry with me; he’d think I’d stood him up. I would never do that to him, ever.
The plane trip was only an hour long, so we got to England in no time. As soon as we were off the plane it was a big rush to get our bags; well I say we but I mean mum, dad and Owen. I got chatting to a fit French guy. He’d complemented me on my outfit, but there wasn’t much of it. It was only a skirt and bandeau top. I was freezing, but looked amazing. I had my bleach blond hair in curls and lashings of mascara around my deep, blue eyes. My false nails kept getting caught on the handle of my suitcase, so Owen offered to pull it for me. We were standing outside the bathroom waiting for dad. I glanced around to see a girl who looked about the same age as me, but looked like a complete book worm. I noticed that her gaze was turned directly to Owen, I didn’t understand why.
When we got outside, there was a huge stretch limo waiting for us, Owen sighed.
“Dad, do we always have to make a scene. You could have just got a small car, we’d have fit.”
“No Owen. Where would we have put all of Evie’s baggage? It would never have fit into a seven seated car, let alone a five!” I smiled and leaned over to kiss my dad on the cheek.
“You know me too well dad.” I heard Owen mumble something like, he doesn’t know me, but he wouldn’t say that; he loves dad!
